WEEKSIX

PARTICIPANTGUIDE

This week at True North we continued At the Core with A Church for Alaska and the Globe. Jesus calls every believer to mission—here, across Alaska, and to the nations (Acts 1:8). We keep the gospel at the center, measure success by sending (not seating), and celebrate every “one” who comes home to Jesus. Join us Sunday as we live the mission together.

ICEBRAKER

+ Share a moment you sensed God “placed” you in Alaska on purpose.
+ What’s a meaningful experience you’ve had in another Alaskan community or another nation?
+ Who first invited you to Jesus, and how did that impact you?

SCRIPTURALREFERENCES

Acts 1:8
But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth.

Acts 17:26
From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.

Mark 5:19
Jesus did not let him, but said, “Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”

Matthew 5:14–16
“You are the light of the world. A town built on a hill cannot be hidden. Neither do people light a lamp and put it under a bowl. Instead they put it on its stand, and it gives light to everyone in the house. In the same way, let your light shine before others, that they may see your good deeds and glorify your Father in heaven.”

Romans 15:20
It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation.

Isaiah 58:10
and if you spend yourselves in behalf of the hungry and satisfy the needs of the oppressed,
then your light will rise in the darkness, and your night will become like the noonday.

Matthew 28:19–20
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Psalm 96:3
Declare his glory among the nations, his marvelous deeds among all peoples.

Romans 10:13–15
for, “Everyone who calls on the name of the Lord will be saved.” How, then, can they call on the one they have not believed in? And how can they believe in the one of whom they have not heard? And how can they hear without someone preaching to them? And how can anyone preach unless they are sent? As it is written: “How beautiful are the feet of those who bring good news!”

2 Corinthians 4:18
So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but on what is unseen, since what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.

Revelation 7:9
After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb. They were wearing white robes and were holding palm branches in their hands.

Luke 15:7
I tell you that in the same way there will be more rejoicing in heaven over one sinner who repents than over ninety-nine righteous persons who do not need to repent.

Romans 1:16
For I am not ashamed of the gospel, because it is the power of God that brings salvation to everyone who believes: first to the Jew, then to the Gentile.

BIGIDEA

Empowered by the Spirit, we are a church for Alaska and the globe—living on mission in our city, our state, and among the nations until the whole world worships Jesus.

SERMONSUMMARY

This message centers on the conviction: missions is our DNA—not a project but our identity in Christ. Jesus promised power and commissioned witnesses (Acts 1:8). Every believer has three mission fields:

1.  Jerusalem — Our Front Porch (City & Borough):
Missions starts at home (Mark 5:19; Matt 5:16). If we won’t live on mission here, we won’t live on mission anywhere.

2.  Judea & Samaria — Our Backyard (Alaska):
Cross lines—cultural, geographic, generational—to bring the gospel where it’s missing or weak (Rom 15:20; Isa 58:10). Alaska is our assignment (Acts 17:26).

3.  Ends of the Earth — Our Beyond (Globe):
We pray, give, send, and go so every nation hears and follows Jesus (Matt 28:19–20; Rev 7:9).
What this means for True North:

+ The Gospel is our center (Rom 1:16).
We value both compassion and proclamation, but primary missions (soul-winning, church planting, disciple-making) has priority because eternity is at stake.

+ Alaska is our assignment—we pour prayer, people, and resources into our state.

+ The world is our responsibility—we live as Great Commission Christians (Ps 96:3; Mark 16:15).
We all have a role: (Rom 10:13–15)
+ pray
+ give
+ go
+ send

+ We aim at eternal impact (2 Cor 4:18) and measure success by sending, not seating—and we celebrate the one(Luke 15:7).

DISCUSSIONQUESTIONS

+ Which of your three mission fields (front porch, backyard, beyond) is God highlighting right now? Why?
+ Where have you seen God “place” you on purpose (Acts 17:26), and how could you respond?
+ How do we hold compassion and proclamation together—and keep the gospel central?
+ What keeps believers from crossing lines in “Judea & Samaria” (Alaska), and how can we overcome those barriers?
+ What does it look like to measure success by sending, not seating—in a group and in a church?
+ Which role will you take this month: pray, give, go, or send? Be specific.
+ Who is your “one,” and what is your next step (invite, serve, testimony, prayer)?

PRACTICALAPPLICATION

(Live It Out)

Choose one specific step this week:
+ Pray: Set a daily alarm to pray for your “one” and for one Alaskan community.
+ Give: Start or increase monthly missions giving.
+ Go: Join the next village/outreach team or serve at a local outreach.
+ Send: Write notes of encouragement to a missionary or team.

PRAYERFOCUS

+ Fresh empowerment of the Holy Spirit to witness (Acts 1:8).
+ Alaska: open doors, unity, and gospel fruit in villages and cities.
+ Nations: protection, provision, and effectiveness for missionaries.
+ Salvations: “the one” in each member’s life to come home to Jesus.

DEVOTIONALGUIDE

Memory Verse of the Week:
Acts 1:8
"But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth"
Day 1 — Placed on Purpose
Memory Verse of the Week:
Acts 1:8 "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth"

Scripture: Acts 17:26

From one man he made all the nations, that they should inhabit the whole earth; and he marked out their appointed times in history and the boundaries of their lands.

Devotional Thought:

You didn’t end up in Alaska—or in your neighborhood—by accident. Scripture says God marked out our times and our boundaries. That means your address is part of your assignment.

Some of us came to Fairbanks, North Pole, or Nenana for family, work, school, or the military; others were born here. Either way, the Lord planted you in this soil to bear fruit that remains. Knowing you are placed on purpose shifts how you pray, work, and show up.

You’re not merely surviving a winter—you’re stewarding a mission field. God puts His people where lost sons and daughters live, where weary neighbors need hope, and where real needs call for real love. Your street becomes sacred ground; your routine becomes a runway for the Holy Spirit; your story becomes an invitation to encounter Jesus.

Like Esther, you are here “for such a time as this.” Ask the Spirit to awaken holy awareness this week. Watch for open doors, divine appointments, and moments to witness—gently, simply, and boldly—about what Jesus has done for you. Missions isn’t somewhere else for someone else; it’s here and now, with the people right in front of you.

Reflection Questions:
+Where has God specifically placed you (home, work, school), and who might He be targeting through your life?
+How would your day change if you treated your address as an assignment?
+What next faithful step could you take to love your city this week?

Suggested Reading: Esther 4:14

Prayer: Lord, thank You for planting me here on purpose. Open my eyes to the people You’re pursuing around me. Fill me with Your power to witness in word and deed today.

Day 2 — Jerusalem: Your Front Porch
Memory Verse of the Week:
Acts 1:8 "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth”

Scripture: Mark 5:19

“Go home to your own people and tell them how much the Lord has done for you, and how he has had mercy on you.”

Devotional Thought:

Jesus sent the delivered man back to his own people first. That’s our “Jerusalem”—home, coworkers, classmates, and the folks we bump into at Fred Meyer. Missions begins with proximity.

Often we imagine “ministry” as something far away, but the Great Commission takes shape at our kitchen tables, drive-thrus, and hockey rinks. Your testimony—how the Lord has had mercy on you—is a powerful tool the Spirit will use. You don’t need perfect answers; you need a practiced story and a willing heart.

Share how Jesus met you, what He’s changing in you, and how He can do the same for others. Live visibly: consistent integrity, simple kindness, and Spirit-prompted prayer. Let your light shine so people see your good works and glorify your Father in heaven.

Ask the Lord to highlight one person in your “front porch” circle this week. Pray daily for them by name. Look for a natural moment to encourage, serve, or invite. Remember: you’re not the Savior—Jesus is. But you are a witness, and witnesses tell the truth about what they’ve seen Him do.

Reflection Questions:
+Who is one “Jerusalem” person you can pray for and bless this week?
+What part of your story could help someone see Jesus more clearly?
+What simple act of service could make the gospel tangible at home or work?

Suggested Reading: Matthew 5:14–16

Prayer:
Jesus, help me love my “own people” well. Give me courage to share what You’ve done for me and eyes to serve with humility and joy.

Day 3 — Judea & Samaria: Our Backyard (Alaska)
Memory Verse of the Week:
Acts 1:8 "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth”

Scripture: Romans 15:20

It has always been my ambition to preach the gospel where Christ was not known, so that I would not be building on someone else’s foundation.

Devotional Thought:

“Judea and Samaria” pushes us beyond comfort zones—across cultural, geographic, and generational lines. For True North, that means Alaska: railbelt towns, bush villages, and communities that feel far from everything but deeply known by God.

Going to our “backyard” may involve a short-term trip, supporting a village ministry, serving through practical compassion, or saying yes to lead where there’s a gap. It always involves prayer and a willingness to cross barriers for the sake of the gospel.
Paul’s holy ambition invites us to adopt new ground: people and places where Jesus is not yet known, or where the witness needs strengthening. Ask the Spirit to give you His heart for Alaska—the forgotten, the isolated, the hurting. Then ask, “Lord, what is my role?” Pray, give, go, or send—each is essential.

When we spend ourselves for the hungry and the oppressed, Isaiah says our light rises in the darkness. As we cross lines with truth and grace, God’s Kingdom breaks in, and hope grows where it seemed impossible.

Reflection Questions:
+What barrier (distance, culture, fear, inconvenience) most keeps you from saying yes to Alaska’s “backyard” mission?
+Which step—pray, give, go, send—can you take this month for an Alaskan community?
+Where might God be inviting you to pioneer or strengthen gospel work?

Suggested Reading: Isaiah 58:10

Prayer:
Father, give me Your heart for Alaska. Show me where to cross lines in love, and empower me to pray, give, go, or send with faith and joy.

Day 4 — Ends of the Earth: Our Beyond
Memory Verse of the Week:
Acts 1:8 "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth”

Scripture: Matthew 28:19–20
Therefore go and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit,
and teaching them to obey everything I have commanded you. And surely I am with you always, to the very end of the age.

Devotional Thought:

The Great Commission is global because Jesus is worthy of worship from every nation, tribe, people, and language. Global mission isn’t a luxury for “super Christians”; it’s the normal outworking of Spirit-empowered discipleship.

Some will go; all must care. The Church advances worldwide when ordinary believers pray for unreached peoples, give consistently and sacrificially, encourage missionaries, and respond to the Spirit’s prompt to go—short-term or long-term.

Discipleship to the nations means more than moments; it means movement—planting churches, translating Scripture, training leaders, and multiplying disciple-makers. Jesus pairs His global command with His global presence: “I am with you always.”

As you engage the nations—whether from Fairbanks or the field—He goes with you. Ask the Lord which nation, missionary, or people group you should carry in prayer. Consider fasting one meal a week, giving a set amount monthly, or exploring a trip. Small faithful steps, multiplied by God, change eternity.

Reflection Questions:
+Which part of the Great Commission (go, baptize, teach) is God highlighting to you?
+How can you build a sustainable rhythm of praying and giving for global mission?
+Is God nudging you toward a short-term trip or long-term call?

Suggested Reading: Psalm 96:3

Prayer:
Lord Jesus, You are worthy of the nations. Lead me by Your Spirit to pray, give, send, and go so that every people can hear and follow You.

Day 5 — Eternal Impact
Memory Verse of the Week:
Acts 1:8 "But you will receive power when the Holy Spirit comes on you; and you will be my witnesses in Jerusalem, and in all Judea and Samaria, and to the ends of the earth”

Scripture: Revelation 7:9

After this I looked, and there before me was a great multitude that no one could count, from every nation, tribe, people and language, standing before the throne and before the Lamb…

Devotional Thought:

Missions ends in worship. John saw a future where countless people from every nation stand before Jesus. That vision fuels our perseverance and shapes our priorities now.

We care about needs today, and we aim at eternity forever. Compassion matters; the gospel saves. As we preach Christ and serve people, heaven’s family grows. That’s why we measure success by sending, not seating; by obedience, not optics; by stories of one more life rescued by Jesus.

Your prayers, gifts, invitations, and yeses—even the hidden ones—are not small. They are seeds God uses to populate eternity. Fix your eyes on what is unseen and let that hope reorder your calendar, your budget, and your boldness.
One day, Alaskan villages and global cities will sing the same song: “Salvation belongs to our God.” Until then, we take our place in His story—faithful, joyful, and focused on the finish line.

Reflection Questions:
+How does the vision of Revelation 7:9 reframe your priorities this week?
+What “eternal” step can you take—prayer, generosity, invitation, serving—to move someone closer to Jesus?
+Who is your “one,” and what is your next Spirit-led step with them?

Suggested Reading: 2 Corinthians 4:18

Prayer:
Father, anchor my heart in eternity. Use my life so that Alaska and the nations will worship the Lamb. Help me live today with heaven’s finish line in view.
